Frequently Asked Questions

  • I'm a Sioux Falls marketing and communications professional, mom, former teacher, and writer running as a Democrat for South Dakota State House in District 9. My day job is in healthcare marketing — I know how to take complex topics and make them make sense for real people. I'm running because District 9 deserves a real choice, and a candidate who will focus on the issues that make a difference in people’s everyday lives.

  • District 9 is composed of Western Sioux Falls, Wall Lake, and Hartford. You can see its boundaries here. District 9 has two representatives in the South Dakota House of Representatives.

  • Because contested elections are how democracy works best. I believe District 9 voters deserve a real choice — and the issues I'm running on (schools, healthcare, energy costs) aren't partisan issues, they're South Dakota issues.

  • My platform focuses on four areas: public education funding, rural healthcare, energy independence and cost of living relief for working families.

  • I was raised in rural North Dakota and went to Jamestown College (now University of Jamestown) on a full academic scholarship to study English education. I taught in a rural school in ND for three years before moving to Sioux Falls to attend Sioux Falls Seminary in 2005. After earning my master of divinity degree, I worked for a nonprofit, at Midco, and now serve as the content strategy manager at Sanford Health.

I came to South Dakota as a student and stayed because of its people. Running for District 9 is the most direct way I know to keep showing up for them.
